New Local Site: Metromix

Posted April 29, 2008

Ed Kohler delivers a sneak peak of Metromix Twin Cities (link not active yet). Metromix launches in the Twin Cities tomorrow. How will it play against it's local competitors? Also, check out other Metromix sites.

Also, Metromix is a "joint venture between Newspaper publishers Tribune Co. and Gannett." Their local office is part of KARE 11.

Well, they got scooped on the oral sex primer already!

That was just the primer?

I like Metromix. I used to use the site regularly when I was traveling a lot to Chicago. I liked the comprehensiveness of it and the site search was cool.

If the Twin Cities edition is as comprehensive as the Chicago site (or used to be) then it should rock here.

That's my biggest frustration with a lot of entertainment sites - not enough information or just listings that don't tell me much.

If Metromix is going to be filled with reviews and updates of the awesome nightlife and restaurant scene of Woodbury written by Ed Kohler than I have no interest.

My review for yoshi: Woodbury is an exit I pass on the way to buy beer on Sundays.

Where the hell do you get the idea that Ed Kohler has any affinity for Woodbury? Most of the things I've read, he seems to be a pretty big booster of the city.

Actually looking forward to kicking the tires tomorrow, thanks for the preview Ed.

I thought the Tribune Company seemed to be fairly smart about the online game early on as they invested or formed partnerships in areas they knew would take the biggest hits on the print side - classifieds, entertainment and sports.

Nice hooties on the chick in pink on the Chicago Metromix site. Sex indeed sells, though tattooed firmies have their appeal.

Vita.mn - your local corporate alterative.

Woodbury, a Haiku by Ed Kohler

I think Woodbury
is an exit I pass on
the way to buy beer

to further that thought, we ought to declare this Friday "Open Haiku Friday"

edkohler: "That was just the primer?"

It's important to ensure you prime anything that's going to get wet.

master of obvious- What makes Metromix less corporate than Vita.mn?

someone of the female persuasion and that you like to torment.

Sorry, but that's like your opinion man. The best MnSpeak haiku writer is a guy.

The Rat wrote a haiku?
»» Submitted by grote at 9:51 PM on April 29

Nope. She's not an intentional haiku-writer.
»» Submitted by »»» Bixby at 9:54 PM on April 29

there's such a long list of people I like to torment. but the only one who's ever gotten bent out of shape by it is Amber...so I'll go with amber. can you plz provide said haiku? did i miss a thread?
»» Submitted by grote at 10:01 PM on April 29

Nope, not her.

Hmm...

I'd say she's more social.

Another corporate site
Form without substance

I rarely used the Chicago Metromix site when I was a Chicagoland (and no, northwest Indiana doesn't count) resident. Never found it very helpful, and when special events like NYE roll around, it seems like the highest paying sponsors get the highest ratings. I'll stick to Thrifty Hipster, CP, etc.

sandburg -

point was corporate; they both are, but locally owned, in the case of vita.mn
»» Submitted by master of obvious at 9:00 AM on April 30

The more I look at this, the more I'm impressed by the differentiation vita.mn has created (even if it is owned by the STrib).

Because apparently it is really hard to create differentiation, especially with such broad (i.e., not niche) coverage. We have really good niche coverage of the music scene, the restaurant scene, theater if you dig a little (help me out here), and then there's ThriftyHipster for bars and a little sports/event coverage.

Differentiation (ethnography), the invention of ostensible differences between cultures. That is a word I have never run accross. mnspeak is educational.
»» Submitted by KCEside at 11:00 AM on April 30

but locally owned, in the case of vita.mn

you think the Strib is locally owned? Try to pay attention.
